09.03.2013The Tilt House is a complete renovation of, and addition to, a 1960s brick ranch house. Spectacular western views, yet a poor existing site orientation for passive solar gain, led to more extensive use of glass, and an opening up of the roof planes to a more southerly exposure. Reminiscent of corrugated steel farm sheds, the roof forms allow natural daylight to penetrate far into the interior of the house, greatly reducing heating and lighting loads, while creating a wonderful interior environment. This house is super insulated, employs a high efficiency boiler, and is finished in natural materials, many of them locally sourced.
