04.08.2008A complete renovation and 2nd floor addition to a Wash Park Bungalow, with the goal of maximizing livable space, and energy efficiency, while retaining and respecting the scale, and proportions of the surrounding neighborhood. The design derives from the typology of the neighborhood reinterpreted in a new way. Multiple openings maximize opportunities for daylighting, and increase the ability for cross ventilation, thus reducing energy consumption. Super insulation reduces heating and cooling loads even further. The interior was entirely redesigned to create more open living/public spaces, allowing for efficient circulation, and maximizing storage. Use of dark and light woods, natural stone, and aluminum highlights, provide warmth, and sophistication.
